Kenji Theys
Kenji Gillebert from Vlamertinge, Belgium, a boy with a dream to play guitar. In the third year of primary school, he began his music education in Ypres. With determination and admiration, Kenji kept moving forward—he wanted to earn his diploma as a guitarist. And he did. In 2022, he graduated.
Driven by his passion for music, Kenji began creating songs on his phone in 2021—a beginning without an end. That same year, he also started a rock band with friends, called Electrock. The band consisted of four members: a guitarist (Kenji Gillebert), a drummer (Louis Sepieter), a bassist (Keane Gillebert), and a vocalist. But eventually, the band came to an end.
After the band ended, Kenji Gillebert fully immersed himself in techno, house, and trance music—especially sounds from the '90s. In September 2021, his first track was released under the name DJ KGT (Kenji Gillebert Theys), which evolved in 2024 into KETHERO (Kenji Theys Retro).
Unfortunately, KETHERO lasted only about a year, as many people struggled to pronounce it correctly—which wasn't great for promotion. That's why KETHERO simply became Kenji Theys.
Kenji Theys is an artist name that reflects his roots: 'Kenji' is his original name, and 'Theys' is the family name from his mother's side, where his love for music began.
Kenji Theys now works with singer Stella Verstraete, winner of Qmusic's "Strafste Stem onder de Douche," and top vocalist Jitte Thevelein. Together, they're heading for the top.
